Smith and wesson age by serial number

If I undertstand what I read in previous posts correctly, this model was produced from late 70's to late 80's. Mar 20, 2018 ... The number you listed for the 10-5 is the assembly number, which is arbitrary and basically meaningless. The serial number of a Model 10 is found on the bottom of the grip frame. It will be a 6-digit number preceded by a "C" or a "D". The Model 19 is 1976 production.

It also impossible to determine value without knowing the condition. A like new in box M29 no dash could be worth over $1800, while a poor condition 29-3 might only be worth $250.

It's possible that a large block of serial numbers that appear to be from 1954-55 were not actually used until 1957-58. It at least one case a gun has a 5-screw serial and was built as a 4-screw gun.
